Lesson on Adjustment Disorder: DSM-5 Diagnosis and Treatment. Adjustment disorder is a psychiatric disorder involving emotional and behavioural symptoms due to a stressor that lead to significant impairment in a person’s life. If the stressor (and its consequences) is removed, the emotional and behavioural symptoms are assumed to ameliorate as well. Adjustment disorder can mimic other psychiatric conditions and can have symptoms of depression, anxiety, mixed and conduct issue symptoms. Treatment is generally more conservative and is based on psychotherapy approaches.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), It’s estimated that 2% of people experience dissociative disorders, with women being more likely than men to be diagnosed. Because of the way dissociative identity disorder (DID) is portrayed in the media, most people don’t understand what the disorder actually entails, or how common it actually is. In this Patient Spotlight video, you’ll meet Encina, who sheds light on her experience living with DID. You’ll also meet Minnie, the three-year-old girl living inside Encina’s body.

Dr. Gaynor presents a thoroughly engaging lecture about Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). The current working definition of BPD is ‘a pervasive disorder of the emotion regulation system’. Dr. Gaynor outlines how BPD presents differently to ‘normal’ depression and bipolar depression. He talks about common behaviours (addictions, self-harm, acting out) that some people engage in when attempting to regulate the emotional dysregulation caused by BPD. He addresses the reasons that BPD symptoms may develop for an individual and refers to three evidence based treatments: Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Mentalisation and Schema Therapy. Dr. Gaynor also stresses the important contribution made by Margaret Linehan, who is considered the leading expert internationally in the field of BPD.

Disorder formed in 1980 in Bristol.[2][3][4] The original line-up was Steve Curtis (vocals), Steve Allen (guitar), Nick Peters (bass guitar), and Virus (drums), although Steve Robertson soon replaced Peters, and this line-up recorded the first two EP’s by the band.[2] The band sent a demo tape to local punk label Riot City Records, but the label opted not to sign them, and instead they formed their own Disorder Records label along with Heartbeat Records and Riot City boss Simon Edwards.[2] A series of events led to line-up changes: Robertson split up with girlfriend Beki Bondage (of Vice Squad) and began glue-sniffing.[5] Virus got into trouble with the police over the ownership of his new drumkit, and Dean also left, later to be employed as a toilet cleaner in Taunton.[5] He was replaced by Taf (Phil Lovering, formerly of The X-Certs), who took over bass guitar duties.[4][5] Taf would be the only constant member of the band in the years that followed, which saw an ever-changing line-up.[2] Disorder were part of the “protest punk” movement, and were one of the bands that spearheaded the Bristol punk scene in the early 1980s.[6] The BBC DJ John Peel described their early singles as sounding like “shit”.[citation needed]

As part of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund’s recent ‘For The Crew’ fundraising event, Hooky’s son Jack teamed up with Mark Lanegan (Mark Lanegan Band/Screaming Trees), Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder and drummer Shane Graham for a special live version of the Joy Division classic ‘Disorder’.
