ABOUT THE SERIES:
Canāt sleep? Youāre not alone. More than 40 million Americans suffer from chronic sleep disorders – and another 20 million have trouble sleeping in general. And those are just the people who have actually reported sleep issues. We all can relate to having trouble falling asleep because, according to Dr. Judith Joseph, everyone has some degree of stress or anxiety in their lives. Our sit-down with Dr. Joseph will give you the tools to deal with that stress and anxiety and overcome insomnia. First, youāll learn about the science of sleep, when sleep issues become an actual sleep disorder, and why stress can affect your ability to fall asleep and stay asleep. Youāll also learn self-help strategies for getting a good nightās sleep, how to find the right sleep specialist, and all the treatment options available for anxiety and sleep disorders. This class will teach you how to cope with stress and sleep soundly.
Bipolar Disorder is a chronic and complex mental health disorder that causes extreme mood swings, including periods of extreme lows (depression) and extreme highs (mania or hypomania). In this video, we will discuss what Bipolar Disorder is, the symptoms of manic, hypomanic, and depressive episodes, and comparing the difference between Bipolar Disorder Type 1 and Type 2. Also, we will discuss the biological aspect of Bipolar Disorder by introducing two key hormones – Serotonin and Dopamine. We want to raise the public awareness of mental health issues, and emphasize the importance of seeking a health care professional if you or anyone you know is suffering from a mental health crisis.
This video was made by McMaster Demystifying Medicine students Mark Bertone, Jasmine Leung, Teja Koi and Maha Arif.

Lyrics
I’ve been waiting for a guide to come
and take me by the hand
Could these sensations make me feel
the pleasures of a normal man
New sensations bear the innocence –
leave them for another day
I’ve go the spirit, lose the feeling
take the shock away
It’s getting faster, moving faster now,
it’s getting out of hand
On the tenth floor, down the backstairs
into no-man’s land
Lights are flashing,
cars are crashing,
getting frequent now
I’ve got the spirit, lose the feeling, let it
out somehow
What means to you,
what means to me –
and we will meet again
I’m watching you, I watch it all
I take no pity from friends
Who is right and who can tell,
and who gives a damn right now
Until the spirit, new sensation
takes hold – then you know (3)
I’ve got the spirit, but lose the feeling (2)

Lyrics:
You, what do you own the world? How do you own disorder, disorder?
Now, somewhere between the sacred silence, sacred silence and sleep
Somewhere between the sacred silence and sleep
Disorder, disorder, disorder

Anxiety is one of most prevalent mental health disorders, with 1 out of 14 people around the world being likely affected. Leading up to conditions such as depression, increased risk for suicide, disability and requirement of high health services, very few people who often need treatment actually receive it. In her talk āHow to cope with anxietyā, Olivia Remes of the University of Cambridge will share her vision on anxiety and will unravel ways to treat and manage this health disorder. Arguing that treatments such as psychotherapy and medication exist and often result in poor outcome and high rates of relapses, she will emphasise the importance of harnessing strength in ourselves as we modify our problem-coping mechanisms. Olivia will stress that by allowing ourselves to believe that what happens in life is comprehensive, meaningful, and manageable, one can significantly improve their risk of developing anxiety disorders.
